Common Questions About Our HVAC Service
Explore clear, professional answers to frequent HVAC questions, guiding you through maintenance, installation, and system operation with ease.
How much does an HVAC service call cost?
Our rate is $175 per hour during regular hours (Monday to Friday, 7 am to 5 pm) or $350 per hour after hours, with a 1-hour minimum, plus a $150 truck charge per visit. Diagnostic time is billed at the same rate as part of the repair bill. If the repair goes beyond the diagnosis, we give you a written price before doing the work.
Do you offer 24/7 emergency service?
Yes, for existing Four Roots customers. We also take new emergency calls when we can, so call us at (916) 664-4843 and we’ll tell you honestly whether we can get there.
What areas do you serve?
We serve Placer, Sacramento, Yolo and El Dorado Counties, including Loomis, Roseville, Rocklin, Granite Bay, Lincoln, Auburn, Sacramento, South Sacramento, West Sacramento, Folsom, Citrus Heights, Carmichael, Fair Oaks, Orangevale, Rancho Cordova, Elk Grove, El Dorado Hills, Davis and Woodland. We take on commercial and VRF work farther out as well.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. Four Roots Air Solutions holds California contractor license CSLB #1147036 and is fully insured.
What brands do you service?
All major brands, including Trane, Carrier, Mitsubishi, Daikin, LG, Samsung, Fujitsu, Rheem and Ruud, plus specialty equipment like PoolPak, Mr. Steam and Raypak.
How often should I schedule HVAC maintenance?
Twice a year for most homes: cooling in spring and heating in fall. Heat pumps and mini-splits run year-round, so twice-yearly service matters even more. Commercial systems are scheduled through a maintenance plan built around the equipment and how the building is used.
Should I repair or replace my AC?
It depends on the system’s age, refrigerant type, repair cost and how it has been performing. We give you honest numbers on both options, and we won’t push a replacement you don’t need.
Why is my AC running but not cooling?
Common causes are a dirty filter or coil, low refrigerant from a leak, a failed capacitor or fan motor, or a frozen evaporator coil. If you see ice on the unit or refrigerant lines, turn the system off and call for service.
Why is my mini-split leaking water inside?
Usually a clogged condensate drain, a failed condensate pump, or an indoor unit that wasn’t mounted with proper drain slope. It’s typically a quick fix, but ignoring it can damage walls and ceilings.
Do I need a permit to replace my HVAC system in California?
Yes. Replacing heating or cooling equipment in California requires a permit, and most replacements need Title 24 compliance and third-party HERS verification. We pull the permits and handle the paperwork.
Are there rebates for heat pumps in the Sacramento area?
Often, yes. Incentives depend on your utility (SMUD, PG&E or Roseville Electric) and on statewide programs like TECH Clean California, and they change often. We’ll check what’s currently available for your address.
Do you work on commercial refrigeration?
Yes. We service walk-in coolers and freezers, ice machines and other commercial refrigeration for restaurants and businesses, including same-day emergency leak repairs.
How do you find refrigerant leaks?
We combine electronic leak detection with an INFICON D-TEK Stratus, pressure testing and other methods instead of guessing, then repair the leak rather than just recharging the system. See how our leak detection process works.
Can you fix a VRF system another contractor installed?
Yes, it’s one of our specialties. Much of our VRF work is correcting systems other contractors installed or couldn’t fix, from miswired branch selectors to recurring leaks. Learn about our VRF heat recovery service.
